Update on funding

Great news! Government has advised that The Safer Stronger Communities Fund (SSCF) will receive the next two years funding for the wards of Margate Central and Cliftonville West. This amounts to nearly £700,000.

What is the Safer Stronger Communities Fund (SSCF)?

The overall aim of the fund is to improve the quality of life for residents who live in these two wards, making it safer, cleaner and greener and building a greater sense of community pride.

First launched in April 2006, the SSCF Programme has already funded 72 different projects run by clubs, groups and individual residents from these two wards. Projects from Public Sector organisations have also been funded. For details on what project were funded by SSCF click on the links at the bottom of this page.

Approach taken in Years 1 & 2

A different approach will be taken with the next two years funding (from March 2008 to March 2010) as the SSCF Programme Board will be commissioning organisations to employ people to meet the needs of our community. The posts are expected to be operational in Spring 2008 to ensure that the community get maximum benefit for the two-year period.

The Department of Communities and Local Government has provided this fund to support Thanet District Council and its partners in their programme of neighbourhood renewal. The SSCF is separate from any other funding available from Thanet District Council.

What area does SSCF cover?

The fund aims to transform Cliftonville West ward, Margate Central ward and the green space of Dane Park into a Safer, Cleaner and Greener neighbourhood. The overall objective is to improve the quality of life for people who live in these areas.
