Climate

Thanet enjoys an attractive combination of coastal and rural environments and is a popular holiday and day destination. It has an exceptionally mild climate with average sunshine due to its maritime location.

Housing

Thanet offers a diverse range of residential properties from busy town centres to rural retreats, seafront premises to villages. Property prices are very competitive when compared with elsewhere in Kent or SE England, but vary within Thanet depending on their location.

Education

There are approximately 41 primary schools within the Thanet area catering for children aged 4-11 years, 13

secondary schools offering state and independent selective and non-selective education for children aged 11-18 years and several schools offering specialist education to children of all ages with severe learning difficulties and/or handicaps. There are approximately five private schools in the Thanet area catering for children between the ages of 3-19 years, with further facilities in the nearby Cathedral City of Canterbury.

Healthcare

East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust provides all Thanet residents with comprehensive medical, dental and community health care facilities. Free consultations are available with doctors  and many practices provide a range of early warning screening clinics and general healthcare advisory services.

 

The Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital at Margate is managed by the East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust. A comprehensive range of services includes 24-hour accident and emergency cover. The site also houses a purpose built Hospice and separate mental health care building.

 

Nearby NHS provision includes the Kent and Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury and the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

 

Private medical facilities are available within most NHS hospitals including Margate whilst the independent Chaucer Hospital at Canterbury is operated by AMI and is BUPA recognised.

 

Whilst alternative medicine including osteopathy, chiropractics, acupuncture, homeopathy etc. may sometimes be available via NHS referral, this type of treatment is generally only available when purchased privately.

 

A number of private health insurance schemes are available within the UK to cover a full range of treatments and membership is often offered by companies as part of the employee remuneration package.
