Benefits for older customers
Many people entitled to Council Tax Benefit, including up to 1.7
million pensioners, don't claim it.
Council Tax Benefit helps to pay towards your Council Tax bill.
It is an amount that we pay into your Council Tax Account for you.
You will only have to pay any remaining balance - in many cases
this is zero, meaning that you may not have to pay anything.
Who is it for?
People on a low income who pay Council Tax may be entitled to
help, even if they own their home.
The introduction of Pension Credit means many more pensioners now
qualify for Council Tax Benefit for the first time, but you do not
have to be receiving Pension Credit or any other benefits to be
eligible.
How is it worked out?
We will look at the money you and your partner have coming in,
as well as your savings. We will also look at your other
circumstances, such as your age and whether anyone else lives with
you. If you qualify for Council Tax Benefit, it will not affect the
amount of money you receive in other benefits.
What should I do next?
If you are entitled to Council Tax Benefit we want you to get
every penny owed. There's no harm in checking if you could get some
money. Claiming is easier than ever. Claim straight away - Council
Tax Benefit is available now!
Contact us to get a claim form
and more information.
If you are already claiming Council Tax Benefit you do
not need to do anything.
Pension Credit
Pension Credit is worked out by the Pension Service. It provides
an entitlement to all pensioners. The
Pension Service website provides lots of information that you
will find useful, as well as details of how to claim Pension
Credit.
Bus Permits
Thanet District Council has teamed-up with all the other local
authorities in Kent to provide all people in Thanet over the age of
60 with a free bus permit. This permit entitles you to free
off-peak bus travel within Kent, with selected operators.
