Can my claim be backdated?

It may be possible to backdate your Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit for up to 6 months (3 months for pension age claims).

You will need to provide proof of an earlier claim, or show continuous good cause for not applying earlier.

If you want to request backdating you must do it in writing or complete a backdating request form.
