Paying benefit into your account
BACS the way to do it!
That’s the name of a new campaign, which aims to encourage
residents who receive their Housing Benefit by cheque to change
over to receive them by BACS – straight into their bank
accounts.
By changing over to BACS, residents’ will not
only receive their Housing Benefit into their bank accounts for
immediate use – but it’s also a much safer and convenient way,
too!
What are BACS payments?
BACS is a ‘no risk’ way of having your benefit paid straight
into your bank or building society account, instead of receiving a
cheque.
If you choose to be paid by BACS, your benefit will be in your
account on Monday on your current payment frequency.
The benefits of BACS
include:
- Quicker access to your money
- Reduced risk of loss
- Reduced risk of late payment
- Reduced risk of theft
- BACS payments are FREE
Unfortunately, we are not able to pay into
some accounts, such as Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs), Post
Office Card Accounts and some Savings Accounts. If you are unsure
about the account you want to use, please ask your bank or building
society.
If you don’t have a bank account, please
contact us for a leaflet, or
download one here, that may help you to find a suitable
bank or building society account.
If you want us to pay your housing benefit by
BACS (Banks Automated Clearing System), please print
and fill in the BACS application
form and return it to the Benefits Service.
If you want further information, please
contact the Benefits Service.
