The Building Control team is committed to providing a high quality, cost effective and locally delivered service for all types of development, drawing upon our extensive local knowledge and links to other Council departments.

Building application forms

Application forms are available as pdf copies which you can print out and post back to us or you can download them, complete them electronically and email them back to us.  With effect from April 2011 you will also be able to pay the fees online.  Please go to our Building Control forms page for more information.

Online Application Submission

 We welcome the submission of your application electronically. Please complete the appropriate application form, make an electronic payment and email the application form, together with drawings as pdf attachments to building.control@thanet.gov.uk

Building control advice

The Planning Portal provides detailed advice and guidance relating to Building Regulations.

Building Regulations apply to building work in England and Wales and set standards for the design and construction of buildings to ensure the safety and health for people in or about those buildings. They also include requirements to ensure that fuel and power is conserved and facilities are provided for people, including those with disabilities, to access and move around inside buildings. It is important to understand how to comply and the consequences of not complying.

Building Regulations approval is a separate matter from obtaining planning permission for your work. Similarly, receiving any planning permission which your work may require is not the same as taking action to ensure that it complies with the Building Regulations.

Online Building Control Case Search

From December 2010 Thanet District Council is offering an online Building control case search facility to show all Building Control cases registered with the Council including supporting documentation dating back to 2004/5. New case information is updated daily.  

Book a building site inspection

You may book a site inspection by one of the building control surveyors online.

This service is available Monday to Friday, excluding Bank Holidays.

Advanced Bookings

We are only able to accept bookings for visits one week in advance.

Please note:

• Bookings for same day visits MUST be received before 10am
• A Building Control Surveyor will call between 10.30am and 17.00pm on the day of your booking
• We are unable to be more specific about the time of the visit.
