Planning Advice
Thanet District Council works in partnership with the national
Planning Portal an online resource providing help, information
and guidance on the planning process operating in England and
Wales.
The Planning Portal offers five key sections:
Guide
Introduces the planning system and the application process that
operates in England and Wales. It is aimed at both
residents and businesses. It explains why planning controls
are necessary and what types of work require planning
permission.
Application Section
Lets you create and submit electronic applications. Thanet
Council can accept electronic applications and their
payment.
You can also use this section to complete a typed
application form, supported by online help and a fees
calculator. The form can be printed off and posted with your
payment.
You can also use the Planning Portal's option to purchase site
location plans to accompany your application.
Appeals
Explains the planning appeals process. This includes:
- appealing against existing planning conditions
(enforcement)
- appealing against a planning application decision that you do
not agree with.
The Planning Inspectorate is working towards making the appeals
process fully electronic so that applications and comments can be
made online. This is already available for
Enforcement Appeals and it is anticipated that Planning
Appeals will be added later this year.
Policy & Research
Assists planning professionals or anyone with an in-depth
interest in town and country planning. It includes:
- Planning Policy Guidance Notes (PPGs)
- Regional Planning Guidance Notes (RPGs)
- Parliamentary statements
- other good practice guidance.
Further Information
Any planning decision will take account of the Thanet Local Plan and the Kent and
Medway Structure Plan.
