Housing Renewal Area

What are the aims for Margate Central and Cliftonville West?

The key objectives of the Renewal Area are to:

  • work with property owners to encourage them to improve and maintain the standards of their properties
  • work with landlords and property owners to ensure that there is an improvement of housing standards in the private rented sector
  • get previously empty properties and derelict land back into use
  • improve general amenities in the area, through social and environment improvements
  • encourage all residents to participate and take pride in the area and towards their community
  • encourage employment opportunities and economic prosperity.

What is a Renewal Area?

A Renewal Area is an area identified as having poor housing conditions, coupled with social and environment needs.

The Renewal Area process works as a partnership process in which the Council and partner agencies work with the local community, landlords and businesses to support them in improving and maintaining their property, whilst working to improve the infrastructure and environment of a local area.

What options are available?

There are a number of ways in which the Council offers support to the local community in the Renewal Area.

Private home owners and landlords are responsible for the standard of their own properties.  The Council can support property owners with advice and information on a range of subjects such as;

and financial assistance if appropriate, to maintain their properties.
