Renewal Area Grants

Funding for the Renewal Area Grants has now been fully allocated and is now closed.

Success in the Renewal Area

After four successful years, more than £1m of Thanet District Council funding for the Renewal Area Grants has now been fully allocated. the whole area is now looking smarter and brighter thanks to the grants

Cllr. Zita Wiltshire, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said:

“There’s no doubt the Renewal Area Grant scheme has been a huge success and has improved the appearance of many streets in the area. We have a long way to go to tackle the underlying problems faced in these areas but small initiatives like improvement grants make important contributions raising standards and making Cliftonville and Margate a better place to live. We would love to continue the scheme beyond the £1m that has already been spent, but we can only afford to do this by selling other assets.”

Homeowners were able to apply for Renewal Area Grants of up to £2,000 for projects like repainting the exterior of their property, repairing windows, front garden walls, or crime prevention measures. Homeowners also put an additional £340,000 of their own money towards the work they have carried out.

Customer satisfaction

After the completion of the works we asked each applicant to complete a customer satisfaction form to let us know what they thought of the service. We received a very positive response with over 69% of the forms returned.

Mrs R from Margate said “I am very grateful for the helpful attention of both Dave Farmer and Lesley Dalton. My family has owned this house since 1945 and it has worried me not to be able to improve the frontage. Now it looks wonderful, many thanks”

A local Resident Management Group from Cliftonville said  “We were totally pleased with the whole service and are truly grateful for the Renewal Grant”

Mrs F from Cliftonville  said  “Just to keep financial help coming to those that need it. We live in a very deprived area where security is a very big issue. Both Lesley and Dave we're extremely helpful, understanding and patient. Didn't let me down and gave what felt like personal attention, very professional”

Mr W from Margate said  “The renewal event was executed well from start to finish, the information, start, the builder and final result, very well done. So myself I don't think any further improvements could have been achieved, were both so very pleased to have been awarded the grant, thank-you to all concerned”
