Safer Stronger Communities Fund -Approach taken from 2006 to March 2008

The SSCF funding programme ended in March 2010.  Details of how the programme was run and the impact it made via the wide range of projects it funded are provided in the SSCF final evaluation report.

In the first two years of the Safer Stronger Communities Fund (SSCF) individuals, residents and community groups from the SSCF area (i.e. from Cliftonville West and Margate Central wards) were given the opportunity to apply for funding to run projects.

In the final two years of the programme, SSCF funded a team of workers from a range of organisations to deliver services to meet the needs of the community in the SSCF area.  These services were funded up to March 2010.

Approach taken from 2006 - March 2008:

Who could apply for funding?

  • Individuals and residents who lived in the SSCF area
  • Community groups/clubs and charitable organisations that provided services/activities to those who lived in the SSCF area
  • Public and Private Sector organisations who supplied services to the area

How much could applicants bid for?

The amount of funding available was divided into three levels:

  • Up to £1,000
  • Up to £5,000 and
  • Over £5,000

Individuals could only apply for funding up to £1,000.

How many times could they apply?

An applicant, group or organisation could submit a maximum of two applications for funding per quarter time period.

What could SSCF funding be used for?

To be considered for funding the applicant’s project had to work towards the SSCF aim of improving the quality of life for people within the areas of Cliftonville West & Margate Central wards and the green space of Dane Park.
