Projects that were awarded funding from the Safer Stronger Communities Fund (SSCF) in April and May 2007.

Quartet Saturday Morning Cinema Club for Families

The Quartet in the Community Project ran a subsidised Saturday morning cinema club for the schools in the Quartet, providing families with the opportunity to spend more time together in a safe environment.

Spending quality family time together has an impact on children’s confidence levels and this can play a positive role in their behaviour in and out of school.  It also increases the opportunity for schools to work with parents and engage them in the learning and support activities of their child. For more details on future Quartet projects contact the Quartet in the Community Co-ordinator at Hartsdown Technology College on 01843 227957.

Improvements to St John’s Community Centre

St John’s Community Centre in Margate was given funding to replace their heating system, refurbish the toilets, which now include provision for disabled people, and to clear and pave a piece of derelict land at the back of the centre.

These improvements upgraded the facilities at the centre in line with modern day expectations and have been welcomed by the centre’s users.  Over 30 groups use the community centre.  Clearing and paving the derelict area has improved the external appearance of the centre and improved security.

The SSCF Programme Board funded this project so that Margate Central would have an improved community facility, which will provide a long lasting benefit to the residents in the Ward.  The same has been done for Cliftonville West ward, where SSCF funding has been used to upgrade St Paul’s Community Centre. For more information or activities currently available or to hire space at the Centre call St John’s on 01843 224957
