The Thanet Works Partnership is pleased to announce the approval of the following projects:

 

The Worx Project

Lead - Pipeline
Partner - Sport 4 NRG (Thanet District Council).

  • Utilisation of existing networks in disadvantaged areas to deliver a pathway back into mainstream education or employment for young people.
  • Reaching young people in their localities.
  • Providing a provision of training and development opportunities and work placements using elements of popular culture.
  • Engagement of people into positive aspirational activities that move them from their current restrictive circumstances.

Wide Open Door

Lead - KCC.
Partners - Kent Adult Education, Key Training Services.

  • Pathway for entering into apprenticeships, further education, training and employment for young people and adults.
  • Preventative delivery to those young people in KS3 who are at risk of becoming NEETs.
  • Targeting the families as well as the young people – offering family tasters to parents and carers.

Thanet Doorstep Learning

Lead - Thanet District Council.
Partners – Amicus Horizons, Orbit Housing, KAES, Thanet College.

  • Adults out of work in deprived communities offering an integrated learning package based on pilot and research.
  • Linking referral and delivery agencies within the most deprived wards of Thanet
  • Development of a 1:1 mentoring package using local practitioners and community workers who know the individuals and will support them during their learning /working transition.

Youth Outreach and Engagement

Lead - The Kent Refugee and Minority Group

Partners – Connexions.

  • Engagement worker for Pre-NEETs and NEETs
  • Innovative approaches and delivery activities ie. Street Football, Street Dance, Market Gardening, Youth Performance Theatre.
  • Aimed at minority groups

Family Fit

 

Lead - Thanet College

Partners - Turner Contemporary, Windmill Community Allotment, Children’s Centres Thanet Community Development Trust, Kent Film Foundation.

  • Objective to open up concept of arts, design, music, the environment and employment related skills and training to a wider adult audience.

Thanet District Council Apprenticeship Scheme

Thanet District Council, via Thanet Works, has employed a total of 16 apprentices through the Working Neighbourhood Fund.

 

Summary

1 current advanced apprentices (2 year apprenticeship)

5 current apprentices (1 year apprenticeship)

11 previous apprentices (2 of which have been issued a fixed-term contract)

 

Total = 16 apprentices (1 of which have been extended for a second year)

 

Achievements


8 apprentices have gone into full time employment.


1 apprentice has gone into full time further education.

 

1 apprentice has completed AAT Level 2.

 

3 apprentices have completed NVQ Level 3 (equivalent to two A Level passes).


8 apprentices have completed NVQ Level 2 (equivalent to five GCSE passes – Grade C and above).
