A total of 22 proposals were received for the Thanet Works third phase of funding totalling £4,872,628.31.
This project will develop a bespoke training course for 30 Thanet residents with the outcome of
employing 25 of them to work in the Turner Contemporary.
“The Art Works project has been taking shape significantly since the latter end of September. Since before this time, Turner Contemporary have been receiving applications and interest in the opportunity which has been advertised throughout August to present. There have been a vast number of applications from over 18's, which is fantastic, and whilst initial applications from those under 18 were low in number, throughout October we have partnered with and coordinated closely with Connexions, Engage youth forum, Princes Trust and SET and KEY training across Thanet, ensuring that young people are aware of Art Works and inspired to apply if they fit the application profile. Through this we have increased applications significantly for the 16-18 age range.
We are in the process of interviews at present for all ages, with the aim to start the course at the start of
November. We also now have confirmed delivery content from Thanet College and other external providers
from around Thanet after various meetings and discussions. As the project is gaining momentum day by day, I anticipate that within a month there to be very significant further progress, most notably of course would be the start of the course itself. “

This project is to provide creative industry courses for young people that are not planning on attending sixth form, or further/higher education, targeting NEETs and young people about to leave school. The course intake will be 20 young people who will finish with an NOCN National accreditation at levels to suit their abilities . The project will also deliver its own 4 month workplace apprenticeship initiative for 12 individuals.
“The Pie Factory Music music industry courses had a good start, with a very high interest rate, and good application rate. Unfortunately, there have been a number of young people who applied who didn't pick up on the NEET side of the criteria, meaning they were still at school, or already had some part time work. This was a shame, but we still started with 6 great young people. To date, they have been working through awareness of the Music Business, acoustic recording techniques and managing sound for live events. Later this month they are off to visit a live sound venue in London as well as manage the sound for an existing local acoustic night.
The project is directed at young people and adults who have been long-term unemployed and not engaged in
education or training. This project is designed to create accessible and meaningful routes into work. The project will provide work related training, pre-employment skills, skills for life, and a basic IT provision. The project will promote job creation through connection with partner employers and other engaged local businesses. The project will also establish a job brokerage facility available to all clients.
“A total of 32 learners have completed training to date. The Job Broker has been appointed and has started the process of interviewing learners to match them to work. Contact has been made with employers for the apprenticeship positions. The project is still in its early stages.”

Thanet Works will contribute funding towards the work that is being carried out to resurrect the Dreamland theme park in Margate Central. Dreamland will be a catalyst for economic regeneration and is predicted to attract 700,000 visitors annually and create over 200 jobs for Thanet.
This project is a partnership between Thanet District Council and Kent County Council and is designed to make a major contribution to the regeneration of Thanet by bringing forward developments on the Manston Park and Eurokent sites. A large number of jobs are expected to be created from these developments over the next two years and EKO will provide a brokerage service for training, employment, and for information, advice and guidance to ensure that the opportunities arising from the developments reach the residents of Thanet.
