Margate Cemetery
St John's cemetery, Manston Road, Margate opened in 1856.
There are three separate chapels; two are listed by English
Heritage, one of which is in use for funeral services, the other is
leased to the Friends of Margate Cemetery Trust. The third chapel
is for the use of the Margate Hebrew Congregation.
Burials can take place in existing private graves for further
family members. Provided there is space and the owner of the rights
gives consent.
There is new ground in the cemetery where rights of burial can
be purchased and these graves can accommodate up to four burials if
required.
There are areas set aside for:
- Military burials under the control of the Commonwealth War
Graves Commission
- the Jewish and Reformed Jewish Congregations
- those of the Bahai fatih
- the Greek community
- babies and infants
Burial rights to new graves are granted for 50 years.
Burial rights to graves purchased between 14th September 1964 and
25th November 2002 are for a period of 100 years.
Ramsgate Cemetery
The cemetery in Cecilia Road, Ramsgate, opened in 1871. There
are two chapels, one of which is in use for funeral services,
the other serves as a memorial chapel. Both are listed by English
Heritage.
There is no new ground within this cemetery.
Burials can take place in existing private graves for further
family members, provided there is space and the owner of the rights
gives consent.
There are very old unmarked graves, the rights to which were not
purchased. Where there is space within these graves they are
available for burial purposes, and if the rights are purchased, a
memorial may be erected if required.
There are areas set aside for:
- Military burials under the control of the Commonwealth War
Graves Commission
- babies and infants burials and an area by the chapels for
the interment of cremated remains.
Burial rights are granted for 50 years. Burial rights to
graves purchased between 14th September 1964 and 25th November 2002
are for a period of 100 years.

are open daily until dusk or 8.30pm, whichever is the earlier.
Cars are not admitted unless accompanying a funeral.
