Memorials
Selection of a memorial is a personal choice.
You will need to consider the type of stone, what design you
would like and the inscription you want. Your stonemason will
be able to advise you along with assisting with the formalities of
the submission of the necessary application forms and fees
payable to the Council.
You may erect a headstone on any grave where the burial rights
have been purchased, provided the burial rights owner gives
consent, the Council fee is paid and the memorial application is
approved.
You may also erect a kerb at Ramsgate Cemetery if you wish.
Kerbs at Margate Cemetery
Kerbs at Margate are only permitted where the initial burial
rights were purchased since 25 November 2002 or before 14 September
1964
Memorial Plaques at Margate Cemetery - baby memorial
In the children's section at Margate cemetery, in addition to
memorials on private individual graves, there is a statue with
provision for small plaques around its base. Please contact Thanet
Baby Bereavement Support Group for advice. 01843 223576
Maintenance
Memorials are the responsibility of the owner of the burial
rights and must be kept in good and secure order. Insurance may be
available through your stonemason.
Private planting should be maintained to an acceptable
standard.
