Annual Canvass of Electors 2010/2011

As a resident of Thanet you will soon be receiving mail that will affect your opportunity to ensure that your voice is heard on the issues affecting you and your community.

Dont lose your right to vote

Every year we compile an electoral register by sending out annual canvass forms to every property in the area.  By completing and returning this form, you’ll make sure you are included on the new electoral register and are able to vote in any forthcoming elections.

If you’re not registered to vote, then you cannot influence who represents you at a local, national or European level.  All you have to do is complete the annual canvass form that will be dropping through your letter box and you’ll be able to help choose the people that make the decisions which affect your everyday life.

By post

If you have any changes to make to your annual canvass form (except opting out of the Edited Register - see below)  you must make them and return the form by post. 

• If people have moved in – please add them on;
• if people have left – please cross them out;
• if there are any mistakes on your form – please correct them. 

Once all the changes are made please date and sign the form and pop it in the post. 

Please do not put children under the age of 16 years on the form.  Please complete dates of birth for all 16 and 17 year olds.  It will only take a few minutes for you to secure your right to vote.

Telephone and internet registration

If all of the pre-printed personal details are correct on your annual canvass form and you have no additions or changes (except opting out of the Edited Register - see below) you can use the free telephone or internet registration services provided.   

To use either of these services you will need to have your annual canvass form to hand.

By Telephone

Telephone Registration – on the top right hand corner of your annual canvass form you will find a freephone telephone number and a ten digit unique reference number.  All you have to do is ring the free phone telephone number, enter your ten digit unique reference number and follow the automated instructions.  Once you have completed your call you will be informed that your registration is complete and you do not need to return your form.

By Internet

Internet Registration – you will find on the top right hand corner of your annual canvass form the following internet address:  www.registerbyinternet.com/thanet. You will be asked to enter your ten digit unique reference number and follow the instructions. Once you have completed your call you will be informed that your registration is complete and you do not need to return your form.

PLEASE NOTE: Telephone and Internet service will terminate on 10 NOVEMBER 2010

Edited register

The Edited register is available for general sale and can be used for any purpose. The edited register can be bought by any person, company or organisation and can be used for commercial activities such as marketing. If you want to opt out of having your details appear on the edited register, please indicate this in your registration. You must also ask each person named on the form if they want to opt out of the edited register.
