Local Democracy Week
Local Democracy Week – Monday 13 to Sunday 19 October 2008
Councils across the country are encouraging
young people to take an interest in local democracy. The Local
Democracy Week campaign 2008 aims to make councils more relevant
and useful to young people
The following Local Democracy Web Pages are
designed to get young people more involved with, and aware of,
Thanet District Council and the way it works.
There are a collection of challenging
but fun online games that help young people learn about UK
democracy, with a particular focus on local government.
- You can try your hand at organising
your very own political campaign to try and beat your
opponents.
- You can become a Councillor for the
day and put your political decision-making skills to the test

Did You Know?
When you turn 18 you will be eligible to vote in
Parliamentary, European, and local elections.
But you can only do so once you've registered to vote with
Thanet District Council. If you're aged 16 or 17 now is the ideal
time to get on the register.
As well as ensuring you do not miss out on your fundamental
right to vote at elections, registering now has other benefits.
Not being on the register could prevent you from getting a bank
account, mobile phone and many other financial and retail services.
So don't delay, register today.
