Thanet District Council Waste Initiative
A Bin for all reasons
The Council is planning to change and
improve the way it collects your domestic rubbish and recyclable
materials.
One way we can do this is to introduce
a dual wheelie bin service to collect household waste one week and
recyclable materials (paper, cardboard, cans and plastic bottles)
the next.
For those residents where a wheelie
bin service is not suitable an alternative would be provided.
By doing this we believe we can
increase the recycling rates throughout the district and keep the
streets cleaner with less chance of seagulls attacking refuse and
bags splitting on collection.
The wheelie bin service begins with a
pilot service in selected areas to test it out and identify any
problems before they are rolled out district wide.
Alongside this initiative, from 1
April 2006, Thanet Council will return to providing the refuse
collection service direct and not through a contractor.
These are major changes and to get
ready for them we need your help. We want to know what you think
about wheelie bins, recycling and how our waste should be managed
for the next 10 years. This will help us
- Plan the delivery of a waste management service that will
meet the needs of our customers now and in the future.
- Develop a strategy that will drive the way Thanet deals with
waste disposal over the next 10 years
- Pilot wheelie bins in selected areas to fine tune the service
before it is widely introduced
