Crematorium survey
This consultation is now closed. Feedback is being
processed and results will be published soon.
Since the 1960’s, lawn space has been provided at the entrance
of the Crematorium for families to place ashes. Up to 23,000 plots
have been allocated, but it is estimated that, in around two years’
time, this space will have reached capacity.
Thanet District Council asked people whether
the facility should be extended when this happens and, if so, where
they believe the new space would be best located within the
crematorium grounds.
The survey also looked at reviewing the system
the Council provides for marking out the exact location of a plot
of ashes for a family. This system allows families to lay flowers
and tributes on the exact plot, but only a certain number of
markers can be put out at any time. This means that only the first
250 families who apply can have their plot marked out, which can be
upsetting, particularly at times of the year such as Christmas,
when there is great demand for this service.
The survey asked people if they would like to
be given the measurements of how to locate the exact plot
themselves. This would allow people to come and visit whenever they
want, without having to contact crematorium staff first to get
their plot marked out.
