Dog Control Orders on Thanet's beaches
Have your say on the new proposals.....
Local residents, dog walkers and beach users
are being asked to have their say on plans to simplify the current
dog walking restrictions in place on the beaches across Thanet.
At present, byelaws are in place which
restrict members of the public from walking their dogs on nine of
Thanet’s beaches, but these operate at different times, which has
been difficult for members of the public to follow.
As part of this consultation, Thanet District
Council is suggesting that Dog Control Orders are introduced on
these beaches and also on Louisa Bay in Broadstairs, which
currently has no restrictions in place.
Beaches that the council is proposing would come under
the new Dog Control Orders:
- Minnis Bay (main area) in Birchington
- Viking Bay, Stone Bay and Louisa Bay in Broadstairs
- Margate Main Sands
- Westbrook Bay
- West Bay and St. Mildred’s Bay in Westgate
- Ramsgate Main Sands
- Walpole Bay
Please note Botany Bay and Joss Bay
already have Dog Control Orders in place.
The Dog Control Orders will see dogs
banned on each of the beaches from 15 May to 15
September between the hours of 10am and 6pm
daily. This would apply across each of
the beaches above, and would mean that ten bays in Thanet
would continue to have no restrictions in place.
The remaining beaches which currently have no restriction would
continue to have no restriction. These beaches are:
- Greenham Bay and Epple Bay in Birchington
- Dumpton Gap and Kingsgate Bay in Broadstairs
- Foreness Point, Palm Bay and Sacketts Gap in Cliftonville
- Fulsam Rock in Margate the Eastcliff and Western Undercliff in
Ramsgate
This consultation forms part of the wider
anti-litter campaign to help keep Thanet’s streets and beaches
clean.
