Economy and Employment

The overall aim will be to attract new job creating business into the area and to give support to existing business to prosper and grow.

Kent International Airport and Manston Business Park will be the key locations for large-scale job-creating development. Growth at the airport will be supported, in line with environmental policies, and an element of general employment will be accepted on the airport’s northern land. Land to the east of the existing airport will be allocated for car parking. The principle of a parkway station at an appropriate location is supported.

The functions of Ramsgate Port as Kent’s second cross-Channel port will be promoted, as will its use for land based activity such as marine engineering and the servicing of offshore wind turbines.

We will retain a stock of business premises, including the older existing business parks. Some existing allocated employment land will also be retained at Eurokent and Thanet Reach, as part of their role within a mixed business and residential community at Westwood (referred to below).

A set of new criteria will be applied to assess job creating development that cannot be accommodated on land already identified as suitable for that purpose.
