Cabinet Decisions August 2009

At a meeting of the council's Cabinet the following decisions were made on each of the 17 sites:

 

1. Maritime Museum, Pier Yard

This is withdrawn from the list and will be the subject of a further report to Cabinet.

 

2. Land at Effingham Street

The principle of disposal is agreed. Making sure that local residents and those groups in Ramsgate with an interest in maintaining the historic, heritage of the town are kept informed of progress.

 

3. Montefiore Games Centre

The Montefiore Games Centre is withdrawn and will be the subject of a further report to Cabinet.

 

4. Land at Irchester Street

It is agreed that the site proceed to disposal, for redevelopment, through appointment to one of the Council’s preferred development partners.

 

5. Land adjacent to 19 Liverpool Lawn

It is agreed that the site proceed to disposal with local residents, and stakeholder groups in Ramsgate interested in heritage, and conservation of the historic built environment kept informed.

 

6. Port Ramsgate East

It is agreed that a decision on this particular site be deferred until the report of the Marina and Port Working Party is received in Spring 2010. The intention being that the site may be included in potential disposals for 2010/11.

 

7. Manston Road, Extension Site

It is agreed that a decision on this site be deferred, for consideration along with potential disposals for 2010/11, by which time the report from the Allotments Working Party should be available.

 

8. Land at 1-6 Covells Row, Margate

It is agreed that the site proceed to disposal, and development, through one of the Council’s preferred development partners.

 

9. Land at Marine Terrace, Leisure Site, Margate

It is agreed that the site proceed to disposal, but via a long lease in order that the Council retains continuous title of the seafront. A range of leisure usage, complementing regeneration of Margate is possible.

 

10. Margate Caves, Margate

It is agreed that a survey and appropriate security fencing is provided to protect the entrance to and structure of the Margate Caves in order that the Caves remain available for future research, and potential restoration.

 

The Margate Caves have been the subject of recent discussion about potential reopening.

 

It is therefore recommended that after the survey, allowing for reopening, the remainder of the site is agreed as surplus.  Proceeding to disposal with housing provided through either preferred development partner, or registered social landlord.

 

11. Land adj to 129/131 High Street, Margate

The site is agreed as surplus and therefore available to be progressed through the disposal procedure.

 

12. Land at Tivoli Park Avenue/Tivoli Road, Margate

The sites is agreed as surplus and therefore available for disposal through the agreed disposal framework.

 

13. Land adj to 62 Brooke Avenue, Garlinge

The sites is agreed as surplus and therefore available for disposal through the agreed disposal framework.

 

14. Land at Park Lane, Birchington

The site is agreed as surplus and therefore available for disposal through the agreed disposal framework.

 

15. Land at Viking Bay, Broadstairs

That the site is agreed as surplus, with officers to prepare a development brief, offered to preferred development partners and/or the market. On completion of development the site is to be retained by the Council with the new structure on long lease. Thereby producing an income stream into the long term

future.

 

16. Retort House, Albion Street Car Park, Broadstairs

The Retort House, Broadstairs site is agreed surplus, officers to enter into negotiation with the users of Retort House and Broadstairs Community Trust.  Part of the proceeds from any new development will go towards a new community facility in accordance with minute 17 01 2005 (Cabinet).

 

17. Former Rose Gardens, Pysons Road

The site is to be held for further consideration in 2010/2011 in the context of the report to be produced by the Allotments Working Party.
