1. Consultation overview
Every year Thanet District Council has to decide how to allocate Council Tax to fund a number of council services and to make improvements to the service it provides. In order to fund these improvements the council also has to decide how to make savings or generate income in other areas.
This was of particular significance for 2010-11 given the current economic climate and the effect of the recession on the council’s budget. Thanet District Council needed to identify savings of £1.8 million over the year 2010-11.
As part of this process, residents were given an opportunity to help shape council spending and to identify what they believe should be a priority for the council in 20010-11.

Almost 400 people took part in the consultation.
The top priorities for residents were:
Results were fed back to Finance to help shape the recommendations to Cabinet in the February 2010 Budget Report. Results were fed back to the public through spring edition of Thanet Matters, online and direct to the residents’ panel.
