Our Key Partnerships

Partnerships 

We work closely with a number of partnerships across the district to help deliver Thanet’s priorities. These bring together public, private, community and voluntary agencies at a local level to improve the different aspects of the quality of life in Thanet.

 

On the following pages we have included the work of our three key partnerships and we will explain what they do, highlight some of the things they have achieved or supported during the last year, and set out some of their key plans for the coming year.

Thanet Local Strategic Partnership

The Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) brings together representatives from the public, private, community and voluntary sector to

co-ordinate their work for the benefit of the whole of Thanet.

 

What has been achieved over the past year:

 

  • Secured £10,000 each year for the following three years which was matched by £8,800 from local businesses and supplemented by contributions from Thanet District Council. This money has been allocated to a "Community Chest" from which grants have been provided to voluntary and community groups including; Birchington Youth Club, the Citizens Advice Bureau and Thanet Mediation Service
  • Affirmed the partnership’s support for the initiative to make Thanet a Fairtrade Island
  • Reviewed procurement across the East Kent Districts and Pfizer to identify opportunities for using local suppliers

 

In the coming year…

 

  • We will be working with our partners to review how we work together to deliver the best possible services for our residents

Thanet Community Safety Partnership

The Thanet Community Safety Partnership includes Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Kent Police, Thanet District Council, Kent County Council and the Eastern & Coastal Kent Primary Care Trust as well as voluntary organisations. Its aim is to ensure that all areas of Thanet are safer, cleaner places to live, work and visit.

 

What has been achieved over the past year?

 

  • The number of burglaries fell by 11.4%
  • Theft from motor vehicle fell by 25.5%
  • "Operation Cubit" has lead to a decrease in the number of abandoned vehicles
  • The number of serious assaults has fallen by 10.5%
  • Key wards now each have an allocated outreach youth worker
  • Safety Awareness in Thanet schools (SAINTS) is now run twice a year with over 1,400 students attending
  • Over 10,000 attended a programme of summer events for young people

 

In the coming year…

 

The Community Safety Partnership will be focussing on the following:

 

  • Reducing crime, or the fear of crime associated with the night-time economy
  • Reducing criminal damage
  • Reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in six key wards

Margate Renewal Partnership

The Margate Renewal Partnership is a multi-agency partnership involving Thanet District Council, Kent County Council, the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) and a number of other key government bodies and cultural organisations. The partnership was set up in 2006 to help secure the regeneration of Margate and stimulate further inward investment within the town. £35m has already been secured for this purpose.

 

What has been achieved over the past year?

 

  • Successfully bid for £830,000 of funding for Margate Old Town as part of £2m programme including support for artist
  • space, CCTV, lighting and environmental improvements
  • Acquired the Marks and Spencer building and now developing new plans for the site;
  • Completed major traffic study
  • Agreed plans for the redevelopment of the Harbour Arm for cultural and creative use
  • Reviewed the Margate Town Partnership and produced a new three Year Plan

 

In the coming year…

 

The Margate Renewal Partnership will:

 

  • Submit a planning application and select a developer for the Marks and Spencer site
  • Implement Harbour Arm redevelopment plans for arts studio space, a gallery and café
  • Install new CCTV and lighting scheme in Margate Old Town
  • Work with Kent County Council on the selection of a developer for the Rendezvous site
  • Progress redevelopment plans for Dreamland and Arlington Square
  • Support Kent County Council on securing planning permission for Turner Contemporary
  • Develop an action plan for town centre parking
