2007 Annual Report to Residents
Your Thanet,Your Council
Thanet is home to the three beautiful coastal towns of
Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate and eight rural villages.
Surrounded by 26 miles of sandy bays and chalk cliffs on the south
east coast of Kent, it is also home to the only royal harbour in
the UK.
As your Council we have demonstrated our commitment to Thanet by
providing quality services throughout the year.
There are now over 25,000 homes on our wheelie bin collection
scheme which has increased recycling levels and helped us to
maintain tidy streets by keeping the seagulls at bay.
We have seen local events including Broadstairs Folk Week,
Ramsgate’s Powerboat Grand Prix, and the Kent Airshow attracting
record visitor numbers – and we have planned an even bigger and
more exciting range of events this year too!
Through our ongoing consultation with local people we have been
left with no doubt that our community wants cleaner streets, more
activities for teenagers and a lower level of crime. We worked on
achieving this last year and will continue to work with our
partners to ensure Thanet is a safer, cleaner and greener place for
everyone.
We’ve seen a real improvement in our services over the past
year, but don’t just take our word for it.
The satisfaction levels of our residents increased significantly
last year, and the Audit Commission recently recognised the efforts
we have made: "Thanet District Council has improved significantly
since the last corporate assessment in 2004 and is judged to be a
Fair council".
Read on to find out more about our achievements and what we have
planned for this year.
