The Council needs accurate, valid, reliable, timely, relevant and complete information to manage services and account for performance. If the information is misleading, decision making may be flawed, resources may be wasted, poor services may not be improved and policy may be ill-founded. There is also a danger that good performance may not be recognised and rewarded.
Good organisations are aware not just of their activity but also of their achievements. Facts figures and statistics are vital for enabling this self awareness, but if data is not reliable they can cause more harm than good.
