Theme 2: Safe Neighbourhoods

Why is it a priority?

• Thanet has amongst the highest rate of crime in Kent and the MORI Survey revealed that ‘low level of crime’ was the top priority for the residents of Thanet
• 56% of residents feel that a low level of crime would help to make Thanet a good place to live
• Reducing the fear of crime in Thanet is an essential area to focus on, particularly in the evenings/night-time when residents feel significantly less safe in comparison with other Kent districts
• Crime levels related to the night time economy are higher in Thanet than anywhere else in Kent
• Fear of crime is particularly high in Thanet when going out at night.
