Environmental Action Programme
Restoring pride in our towns
This programme has been developed by Thanet District Council to
improve the condition of our busiest areas, starting with our main
town centres and roads.
The EAP (Environmental Action Programme) aims to deal with a
wide range of problems including:
- Broken pavements
- Littering and dirty streets
- Damaged or shabby street "furniture" such as benches, bins,
signs, street lights and planters
- Graffiti
- Dumped rubbish and flytipping
- Crime and anti social behaviour
The Council has set up a special Rapid Response Team to deal
with these problems and the team have already achieved a great deal
in the first year of the programme. For full details visit
'What has the EAP achieved'
Special graffiti removal teams have tackled hundreds of
locations across Thanet, including walls, signs, post boxes,
railings and lamp-posts. Environmental Action Days have been
held regularly to crackdown on a range of issues, including
abandoned vehicles, dog fouling and rubbish dumping.
The EAP also aims to introduce more public art and floral
displays into busy areas, improving the visual appeal of
our streets and public areas.
What happens next?
Over the coming months, the Rapid Response Team will be
returning to Ramsgate and Margate town centres and Northdown Road,
as problems arise. Their target areas for the next 12 months
are:
- Broadstairs town centre
- A28 Canterbury Road (Birchington to Margate)
- A256 (Westwood to the Broadway, Broadstairs)
