Environmental Health Enforcement Policy
The Council is commited to the principles of good enforcement
having signed up to the Enforcement Concordat.
The Council is a public authority for the purposes of the
Human Rights Act 1998. Enforcement staff apply the
principles of the European Convention of Human Rights, in
accordance with the Act.
Our Environmental Health
Enforcement Policy (PDF, 88kb) ensures that enforcement
decisions are consistent, balanced, fair, transparent,
proportional, relate to common standards and
ensure the public is adequately protected
It is not an exclusive enforcement policy. Some
specialist or priority areas require separate policies to comply
with legislation, or to alter the level of enforcement from that
found in this overarching policy.

Food Safety in Catering
- Food Premises Registration
Registration of premises used for a food business (including market
stalls, delivery vehicles, and other moveable structures) is
required by law. Registration will allow local authorities to keep
an up-to-date list of all those premises in the area so they can
visit them when they need to. Follow the link for a copy of the
Food Premises
Registration Form (pdf, 59kb)
Statutory Nuisances
Apart from noise, Environmental Health deal with problems caused
by smoke and bonfires, fumes, gases or dust from industrial or
commercial premises.
