Dog Fouling

In Thanet all dog owners must clean up after their dog and properly dispose of the waste, if it fouls in a public place. If there is no dog waste or litter bin in the area, owners must take the bag and dispose of it at home if necessary.

Thanet District Council issues an £80 Fixed Penalty Notice (£60 if paid within 7 days) or prosecutes in the Magistrates' Court.

If you witness an offence contact one of our Dog Wardens or phone us on 01843 577000 or e-mail customer.services@thanet.gov.uk

Dog owners should also be aware that all dogs in a public place must wear a collar and identity tag detailing the owner's name and address. The identification must be visible, microchipping is NOT enough. Thanet Council believes this is a sensible policy and enforces it resulting in a number of prosecutions of dog owners in recent years.
