Pest Control

The Council’s Pest Control team deal with all kinds of unwanted visitors, ranging from rats and mice all the way down to fleas. The Council protects public health by dealing with pests that can cause harm. All services are charged for.

How to Book

All services must be paid in advance by calling 01843 577000 and pay by credit/debit card or call into the Gateway and pay by cheque or cash.

If you are in receipt of a low income benefit, for example; Job Seekers allowance, Housing or Council Tax benefit, Working Tax Credit or Income Support this service is offered at a reduced rate. You will need to have details of your benefit and National Insurance number when you book the service, as these will be checked.

Once you have paid for your treatment you will be called within 3 working days to arrange the first visit. Some treatments need more than one visit, see below.

• Bed Bugs - Charge includes up to 2 visits - please read steps you need to take before and after treatment for Bed Bugs.  If the relevant steps have not been taken before the pest control officer visits then the treatment will not be carried out and a later appointment will have to be made.

• Fleas - Charge includes up to 2 visits for a 3 bedroom house.  If you have a larger property, please phone the pest control office for a quote before treatment commences.  Please read steps you need to take before and after the treatment of Fleas.

• Rats or Mice - Charge includes 1 treatment and 1 revisit to clear the bait and check the boxes.  This is usually enough to deal with the problem.  If it doesn't then we will continue to treat, for a period not exceeding three months. 

• Wasps - Charge is for 1 spray.  Please note that we spray wasp nests from the outside of the property and for this reason can only treat properties that are no more than two stories high at gutter level. We will only enter a loft if it is boarded and has easy access.

Commercial Premises

All Pests - £70.00 per hour or part thereof + materials (at cost) + VAT.

We treat Commercial Premises but not food premises that we inspect.  These must be treated by a private pest control company.

To treat a commercial premises we must have an e-mail, fax or letter stating that the owner/landlord is prepared to accept all charges with regard to the treatment, giving full name address and contact details.  

The cost of a one hour treatment, which is the minimum charge, must be paid before the treatment can commence and then an invoice will then be sent once the treatment has been completed requesting any further payment due.
