Building Control
Thanet's Building Control team aims to ensure that
building work throughout the district is undertaken safely for
those involved in the work and those subsequently using the
buildings. The team also assists with issues relating to
energy conservation and the provision of facilities and access
for disabled people.
Building control advice
The Planning Portal provides detailed advice and guidance relating
to Building Regulations.
Building Regulations apply to building work in England and Wales
and set standards for the design and construction of buildings to
ensure the safety and health for people in or about those
buildings. They also include requirements to ensure that fuel and
power is conserved and facilities are provided for people,
including those with disabilities, to access and move around inside
buildings. It is important to understand how to comply and the
consequences of not complying.
Building Regulations approval is a separate matter from obtaining planning permission for your work.
Similarly, receiving any planning permission which your work may
require is not the same as taking action to ensure that it complies
with the Building Regulations.
