Thanet Planning Policy

The Development Plan

The Development Plan sets out the spatial strategy for the District and comprises:-

Thanet Council is preparing a “Core Strategy” as part of its Local Development Framework and this was formally consulted on between October 2009 and January 2010. This can be a material consideration in determining planning applications.

The following documents produced by Kent County Council also from part of the Development Plan:-

  • Kent Minerals Local Plan: Construction Aggregates Saved Policies
  • Kent Minerals Local Plan: Chalk and Clay Saved Policies
  • Kent Mineral Local Plan: Oil and Gas Saved Policies
  • Kent Minerals Subject Plan: Brickearth Saved Policies
  • Kent Waste Local Plan Saved Policies

Kent County Council is in the process of replacing the above documents with Mineral and Waste Development Framework Documents.

The Minerals and Waste saved policies, and further information about the Minerals and Waste Development Framework can be found on Kent County Councils website:

In determining planning applications regard also has to be had to government policy and in particular to Planning Policy Statements which set out national land use policy. Further information can be found at http://www.communities.gov.uk/planningandbuilding/planningsystem/planningpolicy/

In July 2010 the Secretary of State announced that Regional Spatial Strategies were to be abolished with immediate effect.
