Thanet Local Plan

The Isle of Thanet Local Plan was adopted in 1998 and this was the first district wide local plan.  This plan was superseded by the Thanet Local Plan adopted in June 2006.

A Local Plan was a policy document produced by the Council, as local planning authority, setting out what can be built and where. This helps guide decisions on whether or not planning applications can be granted.

Local Plans are being replaced by the Local Development Framework.

On 17th June 2009 The Secretary of State issued a Direction 'saving' some 93 policies from the 2006 Local Plan. The remaining Local Plan policies that have not been 'saved' have expired and will not be used in the determination of planning applications.

The Thanet Local Plan Saved Policies form part of the Development Plan for Thanet.

The saved policies will remain in force indefinitely or until superseded by new policies in Local Development Framework documents.
