Local Development Framework

Local Development Scheme (LDS)

This sets out the programme for preparing the documents which will form the Local Development Framework.

The current LDS came into effect on 2nd February 2009 and can be viewed or downloaded below. It should, however, be noted that the timetable shown in the current LDS needs to be updated and some dates set back. In advance of appropriate revisions to the LDS, any queries regarding the timetable for preparing documents should be referred to the strategic planning team.

Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)

Thanet Council wants to involve the local community more closely in making these decisions.  To do this, the Council has prepared a document called the Statement of Community Involvement (SCI).

The Council adopted the SCI on 22nd February 2007.

Development Plan Documents

These are documents that the local planning authority must prepare and which have to be subject to community involvement, consultation and independent examination. These include general policies applicable to the whole district, allocations of land, site/area specific policies and the proposals map.

The Council is currently assembling the evidence it needs to begin preparing the first Development Plan Documents (DPD’s) to be included in the Local Development Framework. It is consulting relevant groups, organisations and individuals to help identify the issues to be addressed.

The Core Strategy will be the key document within the Local Development Framework. The Council is preparing its evidence base for the Core Strategy and will be adding relevant baseline documents as they become available.
