How will we know if our collections are affected?

When the council has to change waste and recycling collections and we know about it in advance, for example, if we need to make changes to your day of collection, we will have plenty of time to plan for this and will ensure you know all the details.

When we need to make unexpected changes to waste and recycling collections, due to suspensions or disruptions due to severe weather, it is obviously much harder for us to get the message out to all residents. Part of the problem is that we often have to make decisions early in the morning when the collections are due. This is not unique to us – other councils all have the same problem.

To find out the latest information, always visit our website We always aim to keep it updated with as much information as possible and if services are disrupted or suspended, we will always put a message on the front page of the website as soon as we can.

The council also makes sure that we give the media full details of what’s happening. If services are disrupted or suspended, we ask them to put the information out on radio stations and newspapers' websites. Obviously, the council can’t control what information the media use and if severe weather is affecting large parts of Kent, they may understandably give priority to announcements about school closures or problems on the roads. Therefore, it’s always best to either visit the council’s website or call 01843 577115 for the very latest information.
