Disposal of fridges, freezers and  televisions

Waste Electrical & Electronic equipment – all these items need specialist disposal

Your weekly refuse collection service does not include the removal of fridges, freezers or televisions from your property.

All fridges or freezers contain either CFC's (chlorofluorocarbons) or other gases that may damage the ozone layer and increase global warming and are now classified as special waste.  This is due to the very technical methods used in breaking them up and recycling or disposing of the parts.  It is an extremely expensive operation.

Televisions now need specialist disposal

How do I dispose of my fridge/freezer/television properly?

Please ensure that your old units are properly disposed of by:

Taking the unit to the local KCC Recycling site

Sites at Manston Road, Margate and Sandwich Road, Richborough

Pay a local Registered Waste Carrier to remove it.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the company employed is properly registered with the local Environment Agency - 0800 807060 - ask the question and obtain a receipt, its your proof that the waste was disposed of legally.

Pay Thanet District Council to remove it
