Graffiti
Graffiti blights the environment, it is considered as criminal
damage and offenders may be prosecuted.
The Council is responsible for removing graffiti from road signs
and buildings that it owns, it is not responsible for graffiti
removal from private property.
To report graffiti on signs / buildings that the Council own,
please contact Waste & Recycling on 01843 577115 email amenities@thanet.gov.uk
Removal can be very difficult depending on the type of
graffiti and most importantly the surface that it has been put
on.
Where we are unable to remove it, we will try to paint it
out.
Tips for Private householders
Private householders may find graffiti removal very difficult,
the following is provided to try and help in removing it.
- It is best to try to remove graffiti as soon as possible, the
longer you leave it the more difficult it will become.
- Local paint suppliers / DIY stores are able to sell you patent
graffiti remover.
- Try to select one that is suitable for the removal of the type
of graffiti (paint, spray paint, marker pen etc) and is suitable
for the surface (brick, block, painted wall etc)
- Please use all products carefully, having read and complied
with all of the manufacturers recommendations / instructions.
- If simply repainting walls, use a neutral colour it is less
likely to become a target.
- To stop future problems you could invest in anti-graffiti
coating, available from local paint suppliers / DIY stores or
applied by a local building / decorating company. These protect the
structure or wall, and allow you to use specialist solvents to more
easily remove graffiti that may be applied in the future. If
completing the work yourself, please take careful note of all the
manufacturers instructions.
