Housing for Older People, the Learning Disabled and people with Mental Health problems.

Specialist accommodation is available in Kent for people who are older and need extra care, and also for people with learning disabilities or mental health problems.

Thanet District Council does not own or manage any of this type of accommodation but we do work in partnership with Kent County County and a number of our partner housing associations who own sheltered housing, warden assisted housing and enhanced extra care accommodation.

You can make an enquiry to the Housing Options team and we will help you contact the relevant housing association. You will need to be on the Thanet District Council's Housing Register. Contact us on 01843 577277 or e-mail housing@thanet.gov.uk to find out what to do.

More information about 'Better Homes Active Lives' accommodation can be found on Kent County Council's web site.

Extra Care Schemes

If you are struggling to manage on your own, then Extra Care Housing services can help you to live independently in an apartment of your own.  One and two bedroom self-contained apartments are available.

Some of these apartment blocks are for older people (aged over 55) and other blocks are designed for disabled people. and may have specialised facilities and trained staff to help.

The blocks have communal facilities such as lounge, restaurant, gym, bar and hairdresser, and care services. These services and facilities can help you stay independent for longer.
