Landlord Board

Thanet Council has supported the creation of a ‘Landlord Board’ consisting of  local private landlords and letting agents.

The idea of a Landlord Board is to:-

  • enable the Council to engage and consult with landlords on matters concerning the private rented sector (including Local Housing Allowance);
  • act as representatives of landlords as a whole to share ideas and opinions on forthcoming private sector housing issues such as landlord accreditation and additional HMO licensing;
  • suggest agenda items and presentation subjects for future landlord events.

An inaugural meeting of the Board was held in October 2008.

We envisage the Landlord Board to comprise of between six to twelve members including landlords and managing agents, and to meet quarterly.

Marion Money, the Kent Regional Representative from the National Landlords Association, has agreed to help organise and chair (in  the short term) the Board and lend her experience to supporting such an initiative in Thanet.

If you would like to register your interest in joining in a Landlord Board, then please contact either Marion at:-

Landlords’ gas safety responsibilities

Under The Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, landlords have responsibility to maintain all gas appliances they provide within their properties in a safe condition. This includes having them inspected annually by a CORGI registered gas engineer and to supply a copy of the gas safety certificate to their tenants.  The Health & Safety Executive has produced a leaflet to help landlords comply with their obligations.

The enforcement body for gas safety in rented properties is the Health & Safety Executive.  View their Get them checked keep them safe information leaflet.

Landlord Loans

To qualify for a decent home or warm homes loan, you must be an accredited landlord.  The Kent Landlord Accreditation Scheme (KLAS) recognises good landlords and agents.
