in Broadstairs and Margate Main Sands*** are busy and bustling
beaches with all the popular sights and sounds of the seaside. From
donkey rides, Punch and Judy shows, kiddie play areas, seafood
stalls, palm trees, tidal paddling pools, deck chair and sun
lounger hire - all within walking distance from retro ice cream
parlours, arcades and cafes in town.
Surfers Paradise - Joss Bay** and Botany Bay**
in Broadstairs are where local surfers take to the waves and Minnis
Bay***, Birchington is ideal for wind and kite surfing. These
beaches all have slope access perfect for water sports as well as
lifeguards on duty in the summer months.
Smugglers Bays - The quiet coves of Kingsgate,
Westgate Bay***, Westbrook Bay***, Botany Bay**, St Mildreds*** and
Stone Bay are a great place to bask in the sun hidden away by the
chalk cliffs or secluded grassy areas and Joss Bay** is home to the
North Foreland Light House a welcoming sight to seafarers. Some of
the bays have beach chalets for hire, cafes and rock pools to
paddle in too.
Not the usual Beach - Thanet has many beaches
of international importance, some of which are home to the rare
turnstones, seals, chalk reef and interesting rock pools. Pegwell
Bay in particular is a nationally renown nature reserve and is used
locally by bait diggers who have visited the Bay since Victorian
times to search the mud and sand flats for shellfish.
