Disability Sport

Following on from the successful Thanet Disability Sports Project (a 3-year project funded by Sport England, Kent County Council, Thanet School Sports Partnership and Thanet District Council) the Council is committed to making sport available for all. Our aims include;

  • Enabling and encouraging  more people with disabilities to use local leisure facilities and take part in sporting activities.
  • Working with local sports facilities and established clubs to ensure they are accessible and inclusive.
  • Working with disability organisations to promote the opportunities on offer.
  • Encouraging people to try new things they thought were not available for people with disabilities and to become more self sufficient.

There are lots of sports activities available for people with a disability. Click on the link below to have a look at some of them.

Sportsnet

Sportsnet is a new initiative to improve and widen the inclusion of people with learning disabilities into mainstream sport. If you are interested in sport and not sure where to start, please contact the Skillnet group to get involved. This is run in partnership with Thanet Leisureforce and funded by Comic Relief.
