SPORT 4 NRG offers the young people of Thanet the chance to take part in sport for FREE! We hope that by providing these sports sessions, our young people can stay active, occupied and out of trouble.
We use Sport as the tool to divert them away from anti-social behaviour and boredom! The project provides daily after school sessions and special school holiday events.
The age group for SPORT 4 NRG is 11 – 17.
The SPORT 4 NRG programme is the Council's commitment to delivering sporting opportunities for young people and attracts hundreds of young people every year. In 2009-2010, we had over 3000 attendances! We have responded to public consultation where 'more things for young people to do' have been a priority.
SPORT 4 NRG is funded and delivered by Thanet District Council and supported by Thanet Works. The Council made this commitment following the success of the original 3-year Sport England funded project.
SPORT 4 NRG came runner up in the 2007 National Lottery Awards 'Best Sports Project' Category, beating over 600 nominated projects.
SPORT 4 NRG received some extra funding from Sport England & Kent Sport to provide extra sports activities for people between the ages of 14 and 25 who do not currently participate regularly. The three sports that are currently on offer are Athletics, Indoor Volleyball & Ten Pin Bowling. See details of the programme here.

SPORT 4 NRG is now offering free sports leadership training to young people aged 16 - 24 who are unsure about what they want to do after leaving school. Check out the information on the 'Worx Project' page.
For young people (male & female) who are interested in assisting or running dance classes. We teach dance specific skills, but also teach how to prepare, be aware of risks, child protection issues and communication skills. Details of our next course will be on here first.
Our next COMMUNITY SPORTS LEADERSHIP course will be starting at the end of April. This is a very practical qualification based mainly in the sports hall. Candidates will learn how to plan and prepare a sports session, how to assess risks, how to lead and how to communicate. For more details, call 07770 828 582.
