Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Checks
All sports clubs delivering activities for
young people should have the relevant policies and procedures in
place to provide evidence of good practice and duty of care to
young people.
These include:
- a child protection policy
- an equity and ethics policy
- codes of practice for coaches, parents and
children
- references for coaches
- CRB checks for relevant members of the
club
Coaches, whether paid or acting as a
volunteer, should be asked to complete an enhanced disclosure with
the Criminal Records Bureau by their club.
Many National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) of
sport provide a service for these checks as part of their coach
education process e.g. Football Association. If you are unsure
contact your sport’s NGB for further details.
For those sports that this does not apply, the
CRB provide ‘umbrella bodies’ that can complete the checks on
behalf of the club or individual. Find a local
‘umbrella body’ here by searching the database.
If you are unsure about whether or not you or
your club require CRB checks please contact us for further
details.
