Filming in Thanet
Thanet provides a diverse range of locations which
includes the three main coastal towns of Broadstairs, Margate,
and Ramsgate, alongside the smaller towns and villages of Acol,
Birchington, Cliffsend, Manston, Minster, Monkton, St Nicholas at
Wade and Westgate on Sea.
There are 19 miles of sandy beaches which are some of the best
in the south east. The area can boast that it has an airport
and the HS1 High Speed train to London (6 Railway
Stations) and it is also home to the only royal harbour in the
UK.
We can offer you a wide variety of locations from the Grade II*
listed Theatre Royal to the unspoilt Botany Bay. Working
closely with the Kent Film Office we will
try to ensure that filmmakers not only find the perfect location
but that the process is completed with the minimum of fuss.

Thanet prides itself on being a film friendly area and
we aim to provide a one-stop shop for film location managers,
offering a variety of services designed to make filming in Thanet
easy. We can help you with:

Office, Kent Highways and Kent Police.
- Providing a range of support

on your behalf

Thanet offers this service on the basis of a
completed film request form, evidence/copy of your public
liability insurance (minimum value of £5 million) and risk
assessment.
Thanet location service can advise on a variety of different
areas including some of the best beaches in Kent, seafront
promenades, harbours at Margate and Broadstairs, and Ramsgate Royal
Harbour, Port of Ramsgate, local parks and buildings.
If you are looking for a location that the council do not own,
we will try to assist with contact details from our database of
local businesses who consider themselves to be “film
friendly”. We are here to help with all your filming
needs.
Thanet District Council also has a small library of films and
images that we are able to offer as either research or to
include in your film.
Botany Bay is one of our most popular locations below is a
fashion video filmed in 2011 and released in 2012.

A short synopsis of the film - Rising from the
water and now lost on land she yearns to return to her aquatic
utopia amongst the foam. Inspired by the legends of Faroese,
Gaelic and Icelandic folklore, “Veiled Water” is a fashion
narrative starring a lost selkie who must return to the
sea. The film follows her fatal demise, as she finally accepts
her destiny.
