Visitor Ambassador Scheme

This scheme provides people who have volunteered to be Ambassadors with simple information to deal with tourism related queries in their day to day work. In their usual job role they will already be dealing with the public, so will almost definitely be answering tourism related questions.

The Ambassadors main purpose is to help ensure that every visitor has an excellent experience.

This is achieved by :

  • Providing friendly and helpful advice
  • Understanding what our beautiful Isle has to offer
  • Basic information of local amenities
  • Understanding what Visitor Information Services are available
  • Acting as a sign post for our attractions
  • Understanding a visitors interests and needs
  • Providing suggestions based on these interests and needs

The benefits of this may result in:

  • Greater visitor numbers for the Isle (with the possibility of creating return visits)
  • Safeguarding tourism related jobs, economic regeneration and local resources
  • Helping to deal with normal day-to-day visitor queries more effectively
  • Ultimately ensuring every visitors stay is a memorable one!

The team have worked closely with Turner Contemporary and created a Margate focused Ambassador course to prepare the town for the opening of the gallery earlier this year.  The scheme also worked with the Broadstairs Information Kiosk training volunteers to handle visitors questions during the summer.

The Ambassador Scheme will be looking to expand next year to recruit more Ambassadors to welcome visitors to Thanet and Kent during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
