Thanet is beautiful is an anti litter campaign which aims to show just how much there is to be proud of in our district and to encourage visitors and residents to help the Council to keep it that way by not dropping litter or allowing their dogs to foul.
The campaign features beautiful images of Ramsgate, Margate, Broadstairs and Kingsgate Bay, which were publicised through a range of methods including posters in bus shelters, posters and post cards on sale through your local Visitor Information Centre, on banners along Margate seafront and via the local press. The Margate is beautiful poster has also been translated into Polish and Czech, and is on display in the area.
Officially launched in July 2006 our Thanet is beautiful litter campaign ran for the duration of the summer holidays to highlight just how lucky we are to live in Thanet and to encourage people not to drop litter. Anyone seen dropping litter or dog fouling could face an on the spot fine of at least £50 from the Council.
In October 2006, Thanet Council’s team of Community Wardens went out and about across Thanet warning people not to drop litter and asking them to help keep Thanet beautiful. The successful days in Margate, Cliftonville and Broadstairs saw a total of more than 50 people receive warnings. All picked up their litter after being asked by the Wardens, so none were issued with fines, but they were warned that fines are being increased to £80 and if they drop litter again, they risk being fined.
