Yoko Ono needs your broken crockery
 |
Turner Contemporary is calling out for any unwanted or broken
crockery. The unusual request comes on behalf of Yoko Ono whose
work Mend Piece for Merry England features in Turner
Contemporary’s Far West exhibition which opens at the
Project Space on Saturday 4 October.
Yoko Ono came to prominence as an experimental
artist and musician during the 1960s. Her conceptual artworks often
take the form of performances or simple instructions that can be
enacted by the audience. For this work, visitors to the exhibition
are invited to create their own sculpture out of the donated
crockery. These sculptures will remain on display in the exhibition
and, in exchange, anyone that joins in and makes a sculpture will
receive a symbolic gift from Yoko Ono.

The Far West exhibition is on show
until Sunday 31 August 2008 at Arnolfini, Bristol’s leading
contemporary arts space, where it is proving immensely popular with
visitors. The theme of audience involvement runs throughout the
exhibition and visitors have jumped at the chance of joining in and
making works which can either join the exhibits on display or be
traded for other goods.
If you have any broken or unwanted crockery,
please take it to the Turner Contemporary Project Space on Margate
High Street from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm.
Everyone is then invited to visit the
exhibition from Saturday 4 October to create their own unique
artwork.
