Another 25 untaxed and abandoned vehicles have been removed from Thanet’s streets in the latest Operation Cubit.
That brings the total number of vehicles cleared during these crackdowns so far in 2011 to 128.
In the four day sweep, the teams in the council led operation found the most cars in the Westgate and Birchington area, removing a total of nine. Five were taken from Broadstairs, while four were removed from Ramsgate and Margate and three were taken from Cliftonville.
Once vehicles are removed during an operation, the owners have to pay £260, plus storage costs, to reclaim their vehicles. If owners fail to claim their vehicles, they are either sold or crushed.
Cubit is a council led operation, with help from Kent Police, Kent County Council, the DVLA and Kent Fire and Rescue Service. Abandoned vehicles can be reported by calling 01843 577066.
