Making the most of our property
Local people are being asked for their views on 16 sites across
Thanet, that the Council are considering selling as part of the
council’s plan to sell and redevelop property, with the proceeds
re-invested into building new facilities.
It’s a process that the council will be going through each year
as part of its Asset Management Plan, with all Council owned sites
reviewed to see how cost effective, well maintained, well used and
beneficial to the community they are.
The 16 sites going out to consultation are located in Margate,
Westbrook, Cliftonville, Broadstairs and Ramsgate and include
Albion House and the Motor Museum in Ramsgate, Vere Road car and
coach park in Broadstairs and Northdown House in Cliftonville.
Local people are being asked for their views on the possible
sale of the sites and the proposed uses for them. A series of drop
in sessions are being held for local people to give their views,
with proposals on view and council officers available to answer
questions. The meetings are as follows:
Monday 12 May from 4pm to
7pm Albion House, Albion Place,
Ramsgate
Tuesday 13 May from 4pm to 7pm
Margate Media Centre, 11-13 King Street, Margate
Wednesday 14 May from 5pm to 8pm Pierremont Hall,
Pierremont Park, Broadstairs
Posters will be placed on each of the properties up for possible
disposal and leaflets will also be posted to neighbouring
properties to encourage people to have their say.
Cllr. Roger Latchford, Cabinet Member for Culture and Economy,
said: “We’re committed to ensuring all the land and property we own
provides the best possible value for money for local Council Tax
payers. That means ensuring that it is effectively managed, remains
up to date and modern for people to use. That’s the guidance that
the government has given us and as part of that, we need to look at
the idea of selling off some of our sites that aren’t providing
enough benefit to the whole community. The money we receive from
those sales can then be put towards the things that matter most to
local people, for example, new swimming facilities, which we know
are a priority and firmly embedded in our Corporate Plan.”
